Summer softball continues the excitement and camaraderie that the spring season paved, and for softball enthusiasts, it's a time to swing for the fences and embrace the joys of this awesome sport. With the sun shining bright, the smell of freshly-cut grass, and the laughter of friends and family echoing across the field, the game becomes an unforgettable experience. Summer softball is a home run of joy and it captivates the hearts of players and spectators alike.
Oradell Softball was home to six summer teams this season, with two 1/2 teams, managed by Coaches Pratt and Larsen, a 3/4 team managed by Coach Blundo, a 10U team, managed by Coaches Rupp and Nagy, a 12U team managed by Coaches Rosen and Holmes and a 14U team, managed by Coaches Sgambati and Breyer. The teams had a full season of 12-14 league games as well as tournaments.
Our 10U team recently faced off for the KSL Summer Championship, which went 11 incredible innings. Unfortunately, the team fell short in the last inning, however it still marks an incredible accomplishment, considering they were playing an older and more experienced opponent. It was a page out of David vs. Goliath with our players fighting tooth and nail, till the last out! The game could not be finished on it's original date as they ran out of daylight! Weekend plans were put on hold as the two teams were back at Memorial Field for a 9:00 AM start, the following morning. Even though the game did not turn out the way we all hoped, it left us all with a feeling of great pride and encouraged everyone watching, reiterating a lesson that you never stop... you never quit... you fight till the end.

Oradell 10U was not our only playoff bound team. Both 1/2 teams, 3/4 and 12U also played in the playoffs. 14U sat out the first round, however the team gave a dry run to our first Home Run Derby. It was a beautiful evening of hits and pizza, as Samantha Breyer took home the prize with 6 Home Runs. It was also our opportunity to say so long, but certainly not goodbye, to some great players and friends. Graduating 8th graders, Casey Morgner, Yashvi Rateshwar, Abby Heinze and Alyssa Sgambati are on their way to River Dell High School, where they will be working with one of the best coaches softball has to offer, Coach Brian Calabrese. We cannot wait to see these girls on the River Dell Varsity Field!

Speaking of River Dell's Coach Calabrese. The Head Hawk once again, for his 3rd year, organized a wonderful summer softball camp for the Oradell and River Edge players. The camp is a haven for softball enthusiasts who aspire to become better players and individuals. Under the guidance of Coach Calabrese, participants experience personal growth, skill enhancement, and a profound love for the sport. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, this camp has something unique to offer everyone. Coach Calabrese is one of those rare coaches who looks to the future and as such, takes great time and pride in helping to develop the future of River Dell Softball.

One of the greatest joys of summer softball is the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. As teams form and players join together, it's a chance to strengthen existing bonds and forge new friendships. Whether you're a seasoned player or a beginner, everyone is welcome in the softball community. The thrill of playing together and supporting one another creates an unparalleled sense of unity and belonging.

Beyond the joy of camaraderie, softball is a game that requires skill, technique, and strategy. Whether you're on the pitcher's mound, in the outfield, or batting at the plate, every player contributes to the team's success. The thrill of executing a well-timed hit, making an incredible catch, or striking out a formidable opponent adds an extra layer of satisfaction to the overall experience.

Softball is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. From grandparents to young children, softball welcomes families with open arms. It's an opportunity for generations to come together, share laughter, and create cherished memories that will be passed down for years to come. The game transcends age barriers, making it a perfect family activity that brings everyone closer.
It's a celebration of friendship, togetherness, and the sheer joy of playing. Each moment spent on the softball field leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of players and spectators alike. So, grab your glove, lace up your cleats, and immerse yourself in the magic of softball – a game that embodies the very essence of joy, sportsmanship, and the spirit of the season. Let the innings unfold, and may the rest of this summer be one filled with unforgettable memories and many home runs to cherish!
Stay tuned as we get ready for Fall 2023!
